How to choose a step ladder
Understand support, storage and the differences between A-frame, extension and combination models.

Start with the support
An open A-frame supports itself. A leaning ladder needs an appropriate bearing surface and securing. Combination ladders support only the configurations approved in the manual.
Compare access and storage
| Style | Support | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Step ladder | Opened and locked on level ground | Folds flat |
| Extension | Secured against suitable upper support | Allow for the closed rail length |
| Combination | Depends on the approved setup | Hinged sections pack down |
| Platform | Designated deck and model-specific handrails | Check width, wheels and footprint |
Household and trade construction
For frequent handling, compare the side rails, spreader hinges, tread width and replaceable feet. Read the marked load on the individual ladder.
Examples in the step-ladder guide
The source features the aluminium DSL04 and Winner WDS-06. It also names a six-step fibreglass model as FGDSL06. Ask the specialist for that exact code because it does not appear in the current model directory.
