Five checks before you climb
A short pre-use checklist covering the floor, frame, foothold, reach and load.

01 Find the permitted standing level
Read the label and check the highest standing step for this model. A tool tray or top cap is not a standing platform.
02 Keep contact while climbing
Face the rungs with your hands available for support. Maintain three points of contact when climbing. Choose other access equipment if the task needs sustained two-handed work.
03 Inspect the feet and floor
Look for missing or worn rubber shoes, damaged rails and loose rungs. Use a firm, level, dry surface. Fully open the spreaders and engage the locks.
04 Move the ladder when the job moves
Keep your torso between the rails. Climb down and reposition before reaching sideways.
05 Count the complete load
Add the person, clothing, tools and materials. Compare the total with the model label, including any site-specific requirements.
