Aluminium or fibreglass?
Compare carrying weight, storage and the electrical hazards around the job.

Start with the surroundings
Aluminium travels easily between rooms. For electrical exposure, conductive metal rails introduce a hazard. Stop and arrange isolation and a competent assessment before choosing equipment.
Compare the two materials
Check the actual model weight and folded dimensions. They vary with the frame and fittings.
| Consideration | Aluminium | Fibreglass rails |
|---|---|---|
| Moving between levels | Usually lighter to carry | Often heavier at a similar size |
| Electrical exposure | Metal rails conduct electricity | Inspect the rail condition and rating |
| Storage | Compact options for a condo | Check folded size and carrying space |
| Outdoors | Check corrosion and heat | Inspect for UV damage and deterioration |
Match material to the task
For painting or wiping cupboards, carrying weight and storage matter. Electrical repairs, switchboards and overhead lines need appropriate controls and a qualified person. Fibreglass alone cannot make energised work safe.
